Med W. Klitgaard to Hirsholmene

The good two-masted wooden ship W sails all summer. from Klitgaard 1881 member sailing from Frederikshavn – on a Monday in August it was Asger Møller Nielsen and his crew, who headed towards Hirsholmene – oldest passenger was 98 – youngest around 30.
On Hirsholmene – this well-preserved nature- and cultural gem, owned by the Ministry of the Environment and maintained by the Nature Agency – we got a nice tour and story about the bird reserve, fired, the city street, the church, the two cemeteries with i.a. the tombstone for Trolldepu's "father", the author Dines Skafte Jespersen, the plot of land across from the church, where the inn used to be, the school, and about the past over 200 residents of the defense works and the granite quarry, as the island was.
We heard about the rock island, which used to be two meters higher, but which has laid granite for the foundation of Frederikshavn Church, the city's cobbled streets, countless houses, as well as ancient stonemason Bovin's own beautiful domicile on the island.
We saw gulls and hooded gulls and others. and seal in Prestebugent, and a group of happy young people on a field trip are cheering on top of one of the two concrete remains of the Germans on the island.
On the way out and home from the Pier 2 in Frederikshavn, we saw the harbor and its ships and scrap ships and docks from the angle of the lake, we waved to passing sailing ships and yachts and anglers and watched the Strandby fishermen gather on the horizon two by two on their way to the night's lobster fishing.
As a member it costs a pittance 250 DKK per year to support W. Klitgaard's Boat Association, and with permission to bring a guest, and to sail along on the Monday member sailings as often as you like, 350 DKK for family membership, 1000 DKK for companies, and then there are those companies, who take extra care of this historical treasure, which first stopped as a fishing vessel in 1982. These companies are with an annual donation on 10.000 kr. gold members.
As mentioned, member trips are sailed every Monday throughout the summer – to Hirsholmene or down along the coast for a sail.
Last chance this year is this week 36, inden W. Klitgaard takes part in this year's wooden ship sailing on the Limfjord.
